Cabin Done

Here it is.

With the cabin finished, the port hull is now structurally complete. Lots of things still to add though, but a very nice stage to be at where I can visualise how it is all going to work.

I have filled all the screw holes and gone over the corners with the big 50mm router bit. It is now ready for a layer of boat cloth.

  1. Hi Rodney, I found my password

what can I say , looks terrific. One question, talking about glassing. Is it better to pre coat the surface and then glass over a cured washed and sanded finish, or equally ok to glass over raw ply. I wasnt sure how you did it the first time ??( it does say in the plans to pre coat the exteriors as well but looking at various photos from other builders I couldnt be sure if most are consistent in their approach)

    regards

    1. Thanks Brian.
As for the fibreglass, I put the cloth on bare wood, if you google "gougeon brothers on boat construction" you can download the book for free from the west system website. I have learnt a lot from this book. The main methods are wet or dry, so either place cloth on dry wood or wet the wood out with epoxy first, then put the cloth on before it cures. I have found the dry method works better for me as there is less time pressure. Also you can cover the area first and check the fit. But even now I am still learning, it is not as easy as it looks.
